Lee Creek - C. subauriculatus Shark Teeth - Grade 10 |
|
|
Carcharocles subauriculatus is an old name recently re-introduced by one paleontologist who we rarely agree with. In this case this "species splitting" makes a little sense. We have found teeth that do not fit in either Carcharocles angustidens or Carcharocles chubutensis species. We will call them by the old/new name just to differentiate them. They have characteristics of both species but certainly not C. auriculatus and C. angustidens, as the paleontologist intended. Carcharocles subangustidens would be a much more appropriate name, but this one could not be found in old taxa nomenclature.
