Teeth That Are Not For Sale - Page 2 of ?
These teeth are very special to us in one way or another.  Some are very large.  Some very high quality.  Some are unique in coloration, mottling shape or location found.  Some of these teeth can be worth a lot of money.  Some are next to worthless in monetary value.

We REALLY do not want to sell any of these special teeth............but if you see one you can't live without and you are one of those RARE people who have more money than common sense............we WILL consider offers.

More to be added as time permits.  Stay tuned!!

Carcharocles megalodon
" " . After owning this tooth for about 7 years we still have no idea of it's genus or species.  Showing this tooth to 9 different "experts" have given us about 7 different opinions.  The shape remids us of the "Great White" lineage of sharks while the bourrelet tells us that it must be a "Giant White" shark of some species.

Tell us what you think.

Carcharocles megalodon
5.354" 4.440" 8.1 oz. My system breaks down when trying to grade this unusual tooth.  It has no enamel on the display side  It has no serrations on the blade edge.  The display side enamel and serrations have been ground off and polished to show the beautiful, mauve colored, underlying dentin.  The flat side enamel is beautifully mottled. ?? Carcharocles megalodon
5.767" 4.094" 11.5 oz. This is a very unusual tooth for several reasons.  It is a large, CURVED Lateral.  It's root is heavily infused with Pyrite and it has hygroscopic, beautifully colored and mottled enamel.  The display side enamel and root have been polished to show the beautiful, mauve colored, blue mottled blade and the pyritized root.  The flat side enamel is also beautifully mottled in blue highlights.  The circle is from a modern day barnacle which attached itself after the tooth washed out of the matrix layer. 9..27 NFS --

C. Chubutensis from Summerville, SC.  Look at the size of the serrations - only one missing.  The tip appears to be nicked, but look closely.  It is pathological with all serrations present.  The bourrelet is complete. 10.84 NFS --

Could this MASSIVE 6 inch tooth actually be a C. Chubutensis??  Look at the small side cusplets.  If it is it is the biggest "Chubbie" we have ever seen.  Wonderful mottling from the Morgan River, SC. 9.24 NFS --

Very rare, very high quailty, 6.3" inch megalodon tooth from the "Poles Area" of the Morgan River near Beaufort, SC.  Delightfully mottled enamel with Grade 10 shine.  Pristine tip.  No root loss.  (Irregularities at the top edge of the root are pathological.)

One of the things that most collectors miss when appraising a megalodon tooth is the size of the gap betweeen the display side, bourrelet enamel and the blade enamel.  A large gap indicates massive internal swelling during the fossilization process.  See:    Fossilization    This swelling also causes bourrelet and blade enamel peel because enamel does not swell and the Cementum bond between the dentin and enamel is broken.  This tooth exhibits minimal swelling, gapping and cracking which is extremely rare for large teeth.

When looking at quality 6" teeth for sale on the Internet, come back to this tooth and use it as a "Stand of Measure" to judge the quality of the other tooth.  Please keep in mind that there are very few 6" teeth that are worth $1000 per inch, but they do exist.
