Serratolamna Shark Teeth

Extinct Mackerel Shark

Serratolamna aschersoni

from Ouled Abdoun Basin;
Oued Zem, near Kouribgha, Morocco

This animal was a cousin of Cretolamna appendiculata and lived during the Ypresian Stage of the Early Eocene Epoch (50 to 55 MYA).  It was one of the extinct Mackerel Sharks.  The symmetrical teeth are anteriors from the front of the mouth; the curved ones are laterals from the sides.  These teeth range in size from 1 1/8" to 7/8".
