Cow Shark Teeth

Weltonia ancistrodon

from Ouled Abdoun Basin;
Oued Zem, near Kouribgha, Morocco

This animal was one of the later 6 gilled Cow Sharks in the Order - Hexanchiformes  (Most sharks have 5 gills.)  They lived during the Upper Cretaceous Epoch, Maastrichtian stage, 65 - 71 MYA.  The remarkable thing about these teeth is their large, recurved mesial cone on the teeth.  As in most Cow Shark teeth, the cones point toward the rear of the mouth  These tiny, beautiful teeth are about 1/2" in size.
